Question about original gas tank carpet screws

I've done some searching and would like to confirm this, so the 69-72 factory bucket trucks had the oblong washers and the carpet folded over top of them to cover them up, and 67/68 trucks just had the carpet screwed to the cab wall minus the washers with the screws showing, correct? Did the 67/68 trucks have 12 screws also? Any pics of original 67/68 buddy bucket trucks with the tank carpet still there (long shot?) would be appreciated. If that's not asking too much, maybe a close up of the screw head?

Thanks!

Re: Question about original gas tank carpet screws

There was a fibre strip sewn to the carpet as reinforcement. Here is a link with some pictures that might help you. The number and location is shown in the assembly manual if you have a copy.

Re: Question about original gas tank carpet screws

Thank you Tim. I only have service manuals, no assembly manual. Guess it's time to pick one up. And the screws are visible correct?
That link reminds me, I'd also like the length and width of the strap so I can have my upholstery buddy make me one when I get my seats done. If anyone has an original and wouldn't mind measuring I'd greatly appreciate it.
I really want to do a very factory correct buddy bucket install, I already have the metal brace.

Re: Question about original gas tank carpet screws

This was the part that taught me "Never throw anything away until the resto is complete". I didn't know the replacements didn't include the washers, didn't know they were special, and I tossed them with the old carpet!

Lesson learned, painfully.

Re: Question about original gas tank carpet screws

Here is the original carpet from my 67. It has the strap rug and a shaped cardboard piece on the jack side. It has a cardboard backing and it is original because it has the original manufacturer paper. It has 13 screws holding the rug on and 3 of the same screws holding the bracket for the buddy seat so 16 in all. If you hold the carpet up you screw the screw in on the inside of the blanket and drape it over the screws and tank so you can't see the screw heads when mounted correctly. This is for 67. Never had any other years with buckets and 67 seems to be 1 year only for everything else so that may apply here as well.

Re: Question about original gas tank carpet screws

The strap that holds the carpet up is 1" wide and it is 67 1/4" long. Mine looks to be made out of heavy cardboard like the backing where the jack goes. It is 1/8" thick.

Re: Question about original gas tank carpet screws

Thank you Rod, would you mind getting me the length and width of the strap with the Velcro on it that holds the buddy seat up too? And also how high up the back cab wall the screw holes are?

I really appreciate it. BTW, I really enjoy your build thread. The older I get the more interested I seem to get into stock trucks or mods that appear stock.

Thanks for the kind words. If you hold a straight edge under the lip and run your measuring tape to it the center is 1 1/8" the screw holes are in no way symmetrical. They just drilled them wherever they wanted I think. They average 7 1/2" apart but in the corners they are closer. The strap is 1" wide and 7 5/8" long.
