steering gear
Picking up a red head steering gear.They offer them in 3 or 4 turns from lock to lock. Opinions on which is the better way to go.

I just a few minutes ago ordered the 15:1 quickest ratio that Red-Head has to offer for my 72. I will let you know the diffrence once installed.

Most manufacturers offer a variable ratio and a fixed ratio. I did the fixed in my Jimmy and wish I had gotten the variable FWIW. I used AGR.

They are the same part number. Make sure you tell them exactly which one you want. I have the 18:1 installed right now and am later going to try the 15:1 to see which I like better.

These trucks have such a short wheel base, IMO the last thing I would want is quicker steering especially with a lift and larger tires. I'd be interested to hear from someone that has installed one in their truck.

They told me the quick steer was more for wheeling.

My Blazer only sees pavement, I went with the quick ratio. The whole reason I got a new box because my steering was squirrelly. It fixed that problem, steering is tight now, not at all jumpy at highway speeds and I don't need to turn the wheel as much now from lock to lock.
You might try selling your old box locally first before sending it back to them for a core refund, the shipping back to them is horrendous.
