New project.

I have a truck and was curious how to tell the year and what is correct and not correct.
The title says 1948 Chevrolet truck. When did the fuel tank sit in the frame?
Also when did the battery get placed in the floor?
Is there numbers on the frame?

Re: New project.

Gas tank was moved at some point. Supposed to be behind the seat. Battery was originally under passenger side mounted to frame.

Re: New project.

I think 47 and possibly 48 had the gas tank out side of the cab .
look at the inside of the body right behind the passenger side door to see if it ever had the gas fill hole there ..also there would have been mounting brackets on the floor behind the seat.

Re: New project.

look behind the seat at the rear cab support braces, the 47 48 's have a single support and the 49 have three support braces.

Re: New project.

The tank is in the original place. 47 48 with center hung rear cab mounts had an under bed tank

Re: New project.

Did a little work. Lowered the rear, pulled the engine and trans to repair the previous owners fab skills.

Re: New project.

Just make it a driver. Lowered as much as I can with the lowered leaf springs, got some wide whites and visor for it and some smoothie wheels.
It has a sbc and pg trans. It ran before so hope to make it last a while and maybe build a nicer chassis and engine for it later.

Re: New project.

Looks really good so far.

How is it painted? Is that automotive paint ove the original green and sanded through to give the patina look? Is it rattle can paint? Whatever it is, it looks good. I like it.

Also, is the bed wood oak? Can't you tell what stain brand and color you used? Looks really nice!

Re: New project.

she used rattle can paint, primer gray and then green then black and sanded through. The bed wood is oak and she stains using some she found at Sears. She doesn't recall what shade.
