Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

Below are pics of my "use to be" Woodgrain tailgate band. As you can see there is no woodgrain left lol. I believe it is original to the truck and would like to redo it instead of buying a new one.

Can this one be saved and the woodgrain be added back? If so how?

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

Sorry I can't help but is the tailgate smooth under that band? I have a heavy gauge smooth tailgate and I've never seen a repop one as thick as OEM.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

If it's an original GM tailgate it will be embossed with the CHEVROLET letters. Aftermarket are the only smooth ones.

It can be restored. Although I don't have a good picture of my tailgate band, here is a pic of the other stuff. I'm pretty sure the lettering is chromed plastic and you can get new ones and the wood grain from LMC.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

Just wanted to give this thread a bump and see if I can't learn something new today. I had forgotten that I had one of these bands sitting in my shed for the last five years and it looks like the one ilovesilver97 posted. Any one have any tip or tricks to remove what's left of the wood grain?
I like how this one looks in another thread by OUbesto. (Hope you don't mind me sharing)

I'm interested as well. I've got one off my Cheyenne.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

Sure, you could restore it, but you'll have to replace the letters and get new wood grain decal and at that point it's not really original. I had one that was much better than that and decided to go with a new one. It's amazing quality. Really is as nice as original. I personally would buy a new one.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

For the cost of new chrome letters, woodgrain tape, and the work involved in bringing back what you have, I would buy a new aftermarket as well.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

Can anyone recommend a good after market with the dark woodgrain like the original? I've seen a few but they have a lighter color woodgrain to them. I know nothing is like the original probably.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

I know that mine is a counterparts brand. I thought that the wood grain looked very close to the few originals that I have. I'll try to take a comparison photo later when I get out there. I don't remember exactly where I got it from. I'd have to try to dig up the receipt, but I think it was either classic industries or classic muscle? Think that's the name anyhow.

Re: Woodgrain Tailgate band Question?

I took a couple of pictures and like I said before you can HARDLY tell the difference between them. Original is just very slightly lighter on the wood grain but that could be a little effect of the sun.
