Question Question about 69-72 cowl induction hoods

I am thinking about putting a cowl induction hood on my 1972 shortbox stepside but have a couple questions.

1. Do the stock hinges and hood latch bolt on like the originals or do you have to drill your own holes?

2. If I go with the cowl hood, I would like a steel hood instead of fiberglass. There are many manufacturers/suppliers out there and was wondering who carries the metal hood for the best:
- fit?
- cheapest price?

I know cheapest is not always best but do all the suppliers get their hoods from the same place/ same couple places?

For example:
the truck shop carries the 69-72 cowl induction hood for $368 but it does not list steel or fiberglass
MotherTruckers - steel $359
GMCPauls - steel $389.95
Christians - non specified $395
Classic Heartbeat Pickup - steel $409.95
Southern Kentuck Classics - steel $415
Golden State - not specified $419
Brothers - steel $419.95
Athey's Classic Truck parts - steel $425
Early Classics - steel $439
American Classic - steel $445
Truckers - steel $449
LMC - steel $449.95
Goodmark - steel $449.95

Thanks for the help. Just trying to get the best quality for the best price.

Do you know who manufactures his hoods and is that for the $395?

Shipping is probably another variable cost depending on where each is located. It would not be very practical to save $20 on a hood if you have to spend an extra $50 on shipping for the added distance.

Does anyone know what chevy truck dealers go to Spring Carlisle? Maybe this could save big on shipping costs.

This is why I asked the question. I figured that all the parts dealers must get the steel hoods from only one or two manufacturers. (I was kind of hoping that someone knew who these manufacturer(s) were.) There is a big difference in prices so I was not sure if I was comparing the same quality and type of cowl induction hoods ie. whether some are very nice fitting quality units and others were cheap, flimsy, and required modification to get it to fit correctly.

I do not mind spending a little extra money to get a nice quality hood that all I have to do is paint and install. But say if it turned out that all the steel hoods are supplied by Goodmark, why should I spend $504 at YearOne when I could get the same exact hood at MotherTruckers for $359?!

I guess I will have to call around and see where each of these parts suppliers get their hoods from. It sounds like the Goodmark units are nice. If anyone else sells these and will deliver to Spring Carlisle in April, I am probably better off going that route.

Meathead95,
Do you remember what Christians get for their steel goodmark hoods?

Alexis,
$350 for a Goodmark hood from ECE?
Early Classic Enterprises or is there another ECE?

Just curious because that is a good price. On Early Classic Enterprises website they list them for $439.

The cheaper I can find a Goodmark, the better!

You are going to get your best price at a show. That way you do not have to pay shipping. I know Goodmark has a fixed price of 95.00 shipping to anywhere in the continental US to a business. Usually at a show hoods go for around 375 give or take a few dollars. At a show make sure to take it out of the box and really look at it.
