Determining correct aftermarket differential

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a set of gears and a limited slip differential for my 82 c10. It has a 10 bolt rear end which I think is the 8.5". How many axle splines did these trucks have? Anyway to determine this without pulling axles. I'm seeing 28 & 30 spline applications.

We did swap the rear ends like 15 years ago. So I have no idea what exaxtly it came out of. If it boils down to it, I will pull the axles if I have to.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Determining correct aftermarket differential

unless I am reading that chart wrong LMC Truck says 10 bolt rear had 28 splines, and assuming C10 being a two wheel drive so x 31 - 3/8" OL

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=161

but a lot can change on a truck in 34 years, as you said yourself

just trying to help

Hate to say it.....pull an axle. It's the only way to be sure, especially since it's not original to the truck.

Yeah i would pull the axles and see how big the ring gear is in it to know im ordering the right parts.Worse case it cost you gear oil.
