Backspacing on 20x10 on 1968 converted 5 lug rear or swap to 69-72 rear?

I just bought a 1968 short stepside. It has a 12 bolt 411 posi with 6 lug axles. I want to go with 20x10 in the rear. Am I better off to convert my rear with 5 lug axle shafts or swap to wider later year rearend. This question mostly centers around "am I going to have to do custom backspacing for a converted 68 rear".
