tow rating with gooseneck trailor?

I have a '72 Chevy Custom 10 with a 350 and 3 spd. auto. Does anyone know about what weight I can tow with a gooseneck trailor (including the weight of the trailor)?

The charts in this thread are difficult to make out and I think for a standard tounge trailor.
Thanks,
EJ

Send me your email addy and I will send you a scan of the 72 info. It will show combined weight of truck loaded with trailer. It does not specify 5th wheel or pull type.

Re: towing capacity question

Does anyone have info on a 68 K20 Panel/Suburban? All I have seen here is just the 2WD C10/20s.

Is there info on the 4WD 3/4ton models? 68 would be preferred but anything from 67 to 70 (with 4 wheel drum Brakes) would work.

If you can send me info on this to k20pu@hotmail.com I would really appreciate it!

An entire towing guide would be awesome for the 68 model year!

Ralf

Re: towing capacity question

Assuming you have the correct rated hitch for whatever you are towing, the max towing is not going to be limited by something structural. It is more likely to be cooling (engine, transmission, rear axle) or braking.

That's a good two tons of stuff and then some over the truck's weight!!!
Roughly equal to a modern mid-size car on a two-axle trailer. My 'Burb has logged many miles (in the thousands) towing Corvettes (2,900-3,500 lbs.) on a 16 ft. open trailer.

I know that. Problem being, the truck is in Germany and in order to get it registered WITH a hitch, I need to have data on the hitch. If there is no GM aproval on how much I can tow, there is no way I can even legaly hitch a trailer up to the truck. The laws are so crazy in Germany it is not even funny! So I need some kind of GM paper, catalogue, book or other official proof of what GM said this truck can tow. Otherwise I´m not even allowed to put a hitch on it. :/

Since I saw some scans here for the C10 and C20´s, maybe These books or papers also Show the K10/K20 trucks?

I hope someone can help!

Re: towing capacity question

As others have said, stopping is more of a concern than actual towing. The trailer our Chris Craft is on has surge type disc brakes on one axle. Total weight of the boat and trailer is about 5000 lbs. I have towed it about 1000 miles total so far with the '70 C10. That's a 350 with 3 speed manual. I leave plenty of room in front of me and watch the gauges and listen to the truck closely. It will let you know if it's working too hard. I think most states have a load limit beyond which trailer brakes are required, and even if your state doesn't I would strongly recommend them, especially on wet roads.
