Major Oil pump problem?

I went to change my distributor this morning and upon trying to instal the new part the oil pump did not line up. As usual, I stick a long flathead down inside to line up w/ the new distributor. I could not move it an all either way. It felt very stuck. The weird thing is I had great oil pressure prior to taking anything apart. Was I just not turning it hard enough? Any ideas on this problem would be appreciated.

Re: Major Oil pump problem?

Try bumping the engine over with distributor in and see if the pump shaft turns, disconnect coil wire so it doesn't try to fire.

Re: Major Oil pump problem?

It should turn with no difficulty, is the screw driver perhaps too fat and getting wedged in the intake or block opening?
