1965 Chevy not Charging

Just finally got our 1965 Chevy Pickup running with new crate engine, etc. However we now have a voltage regulator and alternator and it won't charge. Please help.

Do you have a volt meter? If so with the motor running check the main lead out of the alternator and see if it's putting out voltage. It should be around 13.6 or higher. If not it's your alternator if it's putting out voltage it's the regulator. Before starting - check voltage at your battery between the negative & Positive. Start truck & check out put at your alternator - it should be higher than battery voltage. Then turn on headlights does voltage drop at the alternator? If so your alternator is bad.
On my 64 C-10 I just bought an internally regulated 1 wire alternator and was done with it. But on my 64 I added Vintage Air, Power windows & locks, a Lincoln Mark VIII electric cooling fan and a 64 amp factory alternator just wasn't going to cut it. Oh, I also installed a Ford radiator overflow/windshield washer tank where the original voltage regulator was installed. For me I killed 2 birds with one stone.

I wouldn't even bother trouble shooting, just change up to an internally regulated alternator, 10si, 12si or CS130, with the emphasis on the CS130.

When you write that you now have a regulator and an alternator, did you buy those. If so you might want to click up top on forums and scroll down to the electrical section. There has been lots of stuff posted there with electrical diagrams and such which will make it much easier for you.
