Registration for my 59 Viking Wash,State
. . Here's my first thread with some good information on this subject so Linked it . http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=705048 . I'm sure in my mind there are several ways to obtain a Title for a Truck that does not have a Title in Washington State . This is how I got Registration . Went to local DOL got a trip ticket ($25) and Vin inspection form ( Not Filled in ) Not good . I made an appointment online . but like Second Series said when declaring what it is you are trying to do.... Can be tricky (abandon vehicle ) is not what you think it means . I made the appointment with "Ownership in doubt" . When I arrived to the inspection station with a "Certificate of State patrol inspection" Form (they would not produce it) (MUST HAVE) And Has to be filled out by an agent of D,O,L, the inspector ask why it was not filled out I played dumb. He asked Why I was there? I said I would like to registered the truck ask were I got the truck.? Said it's my father and I would like to get a licence for it.... my father just happen to have a his old business card inspection went off without a hitch a told him he gave me the truck had the dad fill out a gift form after about 30 minutes produced the Inspection form with a state patrol stamp on it Inspector was in a great mood Very helpful we were having a good day both of us So far so good . Go to the local Dept of license the gal behind the desk was way out of her element...... First she tell's me the truck is not roadworthy after I show her a picture and tell her the inspector wouldn't have gave me an inspection if he didn't think it was roadworthy. she then tell's me wanted me to take it to get a "weight inspection" after I convince her not needed she goes on about I have to take it to the IRS so they can value it (for tax purpose) on and on about how I'll need to take it to a dealer to find a retail value and how the Gift letter from my father wont go because no proof he was the owner..... After a long long time her supervisor /Boss tell her just to have me fill out a value statement and a weight statement after a lot of back and forth ask for $247 &change I sign a registration and hand me a temp plate . some picture . 4 of these . . EQUALS( little overfull) but a was on a road trip and knew i would burn it off before it got warm enough to be an issue . . . on the ferry . . . . Previous owner Mr. propane my father . . . looking for Vin# on engine block eventually he moved to the orther side and found it . . put 55 miles on the truck drove all over Tacoma . random pic Pac Hwy . . stop for lunch in the strip mall there was a Vapor store took this pic . . on the way home waiting for a ferry on the hill the hand brake held beautifully . . . . . . . . . . . put 55 miles on it averaged 5MPG top speed 40MPH@3200RPM driving a truck this size this old was adventure . I injoyed it but I'm spent not a daily driver thank for all your help getting this truck together I can now drove it this summer then in the fall pull the cab off and do some more panel work.....Sp . . . . . .. . .

Great Job! Wonderful photos of the trip, love how they pack the ferry's like sardines. Now this is behind you, you can make progress at your pace.
When I registered mine, I had issues at the first DMV. I ended going back to a different one and the gal even refunded me money that the first DMV officer had overcharged me. What a difference a day makes Mark |

COOL BEANS YOU GOT IT DONE. Truth be known since that truck most likely never left Vashon until you drove it on the ferry yourself it may have still been in your dad's name anyhow.
On the tonnage, over here they just ask how much tonnage you want to put on it (license it for) especially with older collector trucks. I'd say having it pretty well spotlessly clean helped at the inspection station Making their job easier always helps.

Re: Registration for my 59 Viking Wash,State
That looks like a collector plate=one time registration fee, no annual fee. A vanity plate would cost every year. In Washington state the code is written to imply a collector vehicle may only be driven in parades or to club events, but it also states that you may drive for leisure, so you are not limited to a specific use.

Re: Registration for my 59 Viking Wash,State
I believe that it is a collector plate meaning that the truck cannot legally be used as a truck and is a show or parade only rig.
No running to the mainland to get a load of lumber at Home Depot in that one. I'd build a flatbed on it with a low stake rack and bench seat down each side of the bed and haul a load of kids in the local parade throwing candy every year and call it good.

Re: Registration for my 59 Viking Wash,State
That may be partly true, you may be hard pressed to prove that hauling lumber is a pleasure, but according to the code, you can drive occasionally for pleasure, until 2017, I wonder what they have planned? http://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.18.220
You better get your collector plates this year while you can! |
