Is my 1/2 ton a 1 ton? VIN # decoding

Im trying to decode the VIN number (PE320J160589) on my 1970 C10. Does anyone know what the first letter P? Ive found it designates "forward control" but i don't know what that is. Also, the 3rd number is a 3 which designates a 1 ton?? Is it because of the mobile home chassis option i wonder?

A "P" truck is a bread van (step van).

That looks like the SPID for a totally different truck. In addition to the model number R05 is dual rear wheels, for example.

Are you saying the VIN on that SPID matches the VIN on your truck?

I'm guessing your glove box door has been replaced. Have you check your spid vin to your actual vin?

Whew! That was close....not to be a wet rag but if you had that P truck VIN on your truck....that would be bad.

CE140J designates a 1970 Chevy 1/2 ton 2WD with a V8 built at the Janesville, WI plant.

Trust me, the SPID is the last thing I look at when I am buying a C10, there are so many reproduction SPID's and glove box swaps, now that's usually done on Super's and desirable trucks, not so much a bread truck hahaha, I'm sure it was just a junk yard replacement. Glad we got that issue solved.

What? No 13 foot bed option in 1970!?!😂. I just wanted to replace or rebuild the carb and find out the truck has all kinds of donated parts, 350 block, 327 intake manifold and a two barrel carb off a 1969 Bel Air. Simple right?

Just buy my ZZ4 Crate 350 and TH400, and I'll build that boosted storker 400 I've always wanted

There were 157" cab & chassis C/30s, the long 1t WB. They accepted 12' flatbeds, dump bodies, 11' utility bodies, etc. I put a low-profile 11' Reading utility body on the '70 CST/30 Custom Camper I had.

I didn't realize StepVan dashes used the same dash panels. I thought they used a different instrument cluster

I believe this is correct but didn't want to say anything. Without checking, I don't think they use a traditional C/K glovebox.
