Well, I posted a few years ago about swapping the manifolds for headers and i'm finally getting around to it. I'm leaning for the Flowtech 31530 full lengthers but am considering the Summit SUM-G9112 . Any suggestions? My engine is stock, for now, but all i would do in the future is a rebuild to stock and keep the original heads. The truck is used for hauling junk to the dump and trips to Menards. Thanks guys!

This is actually a very good question. I myself would like to know the answer and so, I'm chiming in here so that I can get email updates when someone posts.

But also, I have this question. Does anyone have any idea how much better than stock headers even flow?

The reason that I ask is that, on my old 71 C20 with the 350, I had the ram's horn center dump manifolds. When I switched to headers, I never really could see any real improvements in performance. But, with all of the disadvantages of headers (such as leaking and constantly cooking the starter) I couldn't see where they were ever worth it. So, I was wondering if it would be the same on the Big Block engines.

(yeah, I finally went back to the original ram's horn manifolds and never looked back.)

My biggest worry is really just fitment, i'm not looking for a huge performance increase, i just want a pair that fit!

I run the $100 set of painted hedmans on my 79 1-ton 454. Just simple 1 3/4" tube headers. Been on there 20 years, fitment is excellent. Only mod I did was to cut the goofy ball flanges off and I welded on new 3 bolt collectors. I had them on the 454, then ran them on the 502 for a couple years, then reinstalled the 454 and just kept on using them. I've gotten my money's worth out of those, lol.

I have a set of Hedman headers on my '75 C20. I chose them mainly for the heavier 14 gauge material.

Overall, I'm happy with them, although I did have to cut a small notch in the bottom of the passenger side frame rail to clear one of the tubes. They have the ball and socket flange mentioned above, which I actually like, just replace the nuts with lock nuts because the nuts that come with them tend to loosen up over time.
