Can anyone ID a 292 6 Cyl for me? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 1970 1 ton dually that came with a 292 6 cyl , but I don't think it is the original one. Can some one tell me what this casting number is?? 93406004 that is on the block.
Is that a correct number??
Any info is appreciated,

Since where talking about inliners heres another question , that I think i just solved on my own but will ask anyway. Do those later model 250's-292's have anymore power then the earlyier models or where they like all other mid to late 70's engines? (All smoged up)

One more question Jeff, I changed the oil on this thing last year and it had about 10 quarts of oil in it. That is about what it takes to show full on the dip stick. Does that sound right?? I tried a dip stick from a 72 250 6cyl engine and it showed the same?? Any idea on that??? Do you think it needs a dip stick from a 75-84 engine??? Or do they just hold that much oil???

No idea on that but 10 quarts seems a bit excessive. My guess is that your dipstick is to short

7 quarts is what mine takes with a filter. 10 seems to much

(All smoged up) __________________ current project 67 402BB stout th350 3.08's with a locker. Plan on tubs 18.5's out back! (thanks Burnsman!) 71 SWB Stepside, was a 250, now is a 402 Big Block with 4 speed and 3.73's ( was crushed by a tree, bed sold, motor pulled) was my first truck!... oh well... 72 LWB 4x4 350 4-speed 3.08's posi wearing army olive drab green (SOLD!) 68 BURB 50TH LOOKALIKE work in progress, soon to have 250-I6 with a 3-speed on the tree 4.11's and posi ( currently sitting in back yard tarped awaiting time, $$$, and lots of love!) 67 1 TON- work truck 396 sm 420 4-speed, flat bed 4.57 gears "big red" (my first landscape truck, very rusty and crusty! but still gets the job done when needed!)

Frame and body done... getting painted!!!
