I had this happen to my 307...and it sounded real bad, like it was coming from beneath the truck....loss of oil pressure on the freeway and lots of knocking, truck stalled when I got onto the access road and wouldnt turn over unless i had the pedal down.....we assumed it was a rod knock and pulled the motor and replaced it woth another....the motor is still sitting on my dads trailer, coverend up and all...I'm gonna take off that timeing chain cover when I get a chance maybe the motor was salvagable after all....OOOOPS!!!!! BUt luck will be that it ain't cause the guy who rebuilt it rebuilt my dads 250 I6 and it did the same thing on his way to mexico. What a crooked mechanic.....he did something wrong...FOR SURE....sorry to but in an vent....

Timing
When timing with a double roller chain with multiple keyways, when it's advanced 4 degress does it change how I time it with a timing light?
Will it still be timed to 8btdc |

Timing Chain
Well....I opened up the timing chain cover and lo and behold everything is just fine. It already has a double chain setup and is tight as a drum. My father-in-law wants to do a compression check and go from there.

The dist has 2 ways of advancing the timing-mechanical and vaccuum. Sounds like you have already checked the vaccuum. The mechanical advance can either get sloppy and bind up or can get so rusty that it will not move as designed. Either problem can give mechanical advance problems that can be intermittent.
Good luck, Randy
