winer diner 1969 GMC
Figured I should start a thread to keep track of this truck. The truck was originally purchased last year by my girlfriend as she wanted a vehicle of her own to go on cruises with and really just to have something cool to drive in the summer.
The plan for this year: 1. 4/6 drop 2. disc and 5 lug conversion 3. front sway bar 4. wheels and tires 5. under bed fuel tank with fill location on bedside 6. head unit under dash (keeping factory radio in place) 7. potentially some exhaust work and mild engine upgrades. 8. DRIVE IT The truck was bought with a fairly new (40,000 km) 350 crate engine and rebuilt th400. truck runs and drives great but will definitely be night and day once the suspension upgrades are complete. During the winter I'll be starting the body work. and overall detail of the truck. we'll likely open up the motor at that time to warm it up some. Onto some pics. 1st and 2nd is the day she got it |

Re: winer diner 1969 GMC
I've been working on getting the tank to a point where I'm ready to test fit. I've also started working on the front drop and disc conversion but I had run into a bit of a snag with the upper control arm binding on the spindle at full droop. hopefully I will have that figured by the end of the weekend. once I have the front buttoned up I will be removing the bed to test fit the tank and to throw the new springs in.

Re: winer diner 1969 GMC
Got the spindles on after doing some clearancing. Managed to get the rotors on too. Painted calipers and now I'm waiting on the conversion tie rod adjuster sleeves from POL as these new spindles seem to be reamed for 71 tie rods.
Started working on the rear springs but the bolts snapped on the trailing arms and the spring retainers wont budge. any one have any tricks out there to get the spring free? I've tried WD40 and the BFH trick already haha. |

Re: winer diner 1969 GMC
Finally got this thing back on the ground. Suspension is all buttoned up just need to get an alignment. Also need to swap the rear 5 bolt axles in.
Put a 1.25" front sway bar on, should be a completely different truck to drive now. short list of to do's is: Install rear axles. Blot on rear wheels and tires. Finish prop. valve bracket. Bend new front bake line. Bleed brakes. Alignment. Is it likely that I will need to flip the carrier bearing with a 5" rear drop? I'll be pulling it into the shop periodically for the rear tank install once I have the tank completely finished and I'll likely be putting an extended swat bar on as well. Onto some pics. |
