Just a side note, are we required to run a "Filter" with the factory tachs while using an "HEI" distributer? just wanted to be sure before I "FRY" my tachometer!!!

Ben

You will fry your take without a filter. The filter was introduced on GM cars with tachometers in the late 70's to improve tachometer performance by filtering out ignition system "noise". I have no evidence to prove or deny the claim but people that use filters say they think there tachometer is more responsive.

Hope this helps.

Tom,
Thanks for the clarification, what do I use for a filter? a capacitor?
Thanks again!

You may find other sources but the ones they sell at Summit will work OK for you. I am not 100% sure if a capacitor would work with an HEI ignition system. They were designed for radio noise with point style ignitions.

Hope this helps
Tom
