Hi All,

I'm new to all this and just purchased a 1953 Chevy 3100 P/U. I'm in the process of selecting some tires and wheels and need to know what will fit. My plan is to lower the truck 3" with a lowering leaf spring kit. I then wanted to purchase from Coker Tires some Chrome Smootie wheels 16" with Firestone whitewalls 3 1/4". Coker Tires is not sure of the fitment and can not guarantee so I'm asking the experts here...what will work? I have a 6 lug pattern, I need to back spacing measurements, width of the rim and what will all work with dropping it 3".

Your help is greatly appreciated.

That will work but I think I would go with 15's rather than 16's Unless you really like the look of 16'.

I don't think what you are looking at will give you any problems as far as fitting. The problem comes with wide rims that don't have enough reverse offset on them to clear the bed sides.

With a narrow tread whitewall tire I would go 6 and not over 7. Keep the back spacing same as the stock wheels so you don't get the tire closer to the bed side. Ok to have less backspacing if you run a reverse rim but you don't wan more.

A little bit shorter tire in height will help lower the truck a tad too.

Dang, the set of 4 14x7 chrome reverse rims I put on my 69 Cutlass in December of 68 the day after I bought it only cost 79.95 and I think the tire store gave my a glad you got home alive discount after that.

Thanks again mr48Chev for your help. I was able to place my order with Coker Tires today. Went with a 15x6 Smoothie chrome/primed 6x5.5 and 760-15 BFG 3 3/8" Whitewalls. I'll let you know how it goes when they arrive. I must say I was very pleased with Coker tires. They weren't just trying to take my money and run. Took several calls and their suggestion to go onto this forum to see what answers we could get before placing the order. Other companies would have just taken the money regardless if it fit or not. At this point I'd recommend them just for that. Nice to see there are still some hard working honest people left in the world. If ever in the need of tires/rims call Jake Hale at Coker Tires 866-516-3215 ex 258. He was very helpful.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
