1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
Hi Everyone,
Just looking for verification on the 1966 truck paint codes. MOST of what I have found indicates that the "metallic" factory colors for the 1966 trucks were: Dark Aqua, Gray, Silver, Turquoise, and Saddle. The remaining factory colors were solids. Correct? I have seen info on this forum and other places that says different, but those 5 colors above seem to come up more frequently as the metallics for that year. Thanks in advance for any and all replies!

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
Have you looked at the GM Heritage Center info? They don't list a Grey Metallic.
Go to page 89 / 149 https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/doc...olet-Truck.pdf Seymour Martin lists: Dark Aqua Poly Saddle Poly Silver Poly Turquoise Poly

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
My mistake, I thought I had seen "Gray Metallic" on an Acme paint chip card for the 66 Chevy trucks... So I guess it's just the Saddle, Silver, Turquoise, and Dark Aqua. Thanks.

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
OK, this is where I saw the Gray Metallic listed. Actually 5 colors listed as metallics for 1966: Dark Aqua, Gray, Silver, Turquoise, and Saddle.
http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/blog/i...r-combination/ Accurate, or....? Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
Your link is information from the 1966 Chevrolet Truck Data Book. These books were provided to the salesmen.
The info from the GM Heritage Center comes from the 1966 Technical Service Department Manual. This manual covered all models and was used to create Technical Service Bulletins. 522 gray listed on the Martin Seymour paint chip as Grey no mention of metallic. 522 in the Technical Service Manual , no mention of metallic. 522 in the Salesmans Truck Data Book mentions metallic. We need to find someone with Gray 522 on their truck to find which is wrong.

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
Aerotruk63, thanks for your feedback. I was just generally interested in how popular the use of metallic colors were for the 1966 trucks. I'm working on paint selection for my project, and I had been debating between a metallic or a solid color, in order to stay relatively true to the time period. But I'm not doing a true period-correct restoration. My current leaning is towards a solid color.
Anyway, thanks again for your input!

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
Where would one find the paint to buy. Needing the 507 light blue.
Just bought a 64 and previous owner painted the hood and tailgate and rest of truck is darker with nice patina. I want try some fake patina on the hood and tailgate to try and have a closer match |

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
A local automotive paint supplier can call the supplier for the paint formula.

Re: 1966 paint codes - solid vs. metallic
We've been trying to find that out for years.
The Corvette crowd has figured it out but so far no luck with the trucks. If you read through some of these factory invoices you might figure out a pattern. Seems when a truck is ordered mono color the RPO code ends in AA. A two tone truck ends in AD. Link to previous thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=562827
