1954 235 vs 1955 car 235, Will they interchange?

Found an engine out of a 55 car with an automatic that has 1200 miles on a complete rebuilt .30 over engine. Comes with a powerglide same vintage also completely rebuilt. He is asking $500 or best offer complete intake to pan including starter generator etc. I don't have a use for the transmission but just wanted to make sure the engine would work in my grandpas 54 3100. Thanks for your help.

From what i remember it is a straight swap. You'll use all you 54 parts (bellhousing, flywheel, starter, waterpump, etc). Years ago when i did a 54 or 55 car powerglide 235 in one of my 54 pickups I think i had to use a different pilot bearing. (Old timer at my local napa knew to ask what block/crank i had and knew the PN off the top of his head and mentioned it was different.)

Decent article about 216 to 235 swaps and some differences in the blocks. http://www.patricksantiquecars.com/a...6-for-235.html

Should be a staight forward swap. The only real difference in the car and truck engines are the cars used hydraulic valve lifters.

Not for sure how the car motor mounts are, if they are side mount or bellhousing mount. Just use your truck bellhousing. You may have to drill the timing plate for your truck front mount.

There will be a difference in the length & position of the water pump.

As Wrenchbender ret said there are at least two styles of water pumps that fit the 55 car engine and it might have either the early style or late style (longer shaft) on it.

This is a link to the early style pump

This is the later style pump with the shaft that is too long for AD trucks http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1398&ppt=C0331

I have pressed the hub back to work with a shorter V8 pulley on a couple of them though.

Can I just use the water pump off of the truck and swap it over? Here are some pics of the engine, can you guys determine anything from them?

I have same 55 235 Inline 6 swap in my truck. Had to go with a water pump swap. Had to shorten it up.

Also, can you post a picture of the water pump side of the engine?

IF you have to do a swap here is the plate you will need. https://www.chevsofthe40s.com/detail...1_Engines.html
