Re: Busted wing/vent window

It's probably the tent ion spring. Mine was broken and I just bought a new set. Not sure if it can be fixed or not.

Re: Busted wing/vent window

Give this guy a call. He is from Precision. He does vent window restorations. He can probably tell you exactly what is the problem. Vent Windows can be quite a pain in the rear to do anything with. And when it come to vent Windows, let the pros do it. I sent mine off to get repaired & restored and couldn't be happier. They look and function like they are brand new!!

Now if you really wanting to try this on your own, do a YouTube search for repairing vent Windows. There are quite a few that can show you what to do and how to repair. From my pic, you can see there's a spring and then there's a small post off the bottom of the frame. The spring attaches to this post. I would say your frame has rusted apart.

Here's a good place where you can get parts, if you go that route.

I've owned a handful of square body Chevies through the years and, at one time or another, everyone of them has had one or both vent wing frames break off at that post that holds the frame into the door. It REALLY is a weak point. I wish there was some way to reinforce that spot.

But, on the other hand, I was always buying trucks that had been rode hard and put up wet. So, maybe just starting with a new frame and just taking care of it is all that will ever be needed. Hmmmm.

Thank you for this heads up. These folks have a somewhat difficult website to navigate but I stuck with it until I figured our their method. (Maybe the navigation problem was with me. Haha.) But low and behold, they have EXACTLY what I need for my own vent wings - just the frames.

If the quality is good, I think the price is fair, too.
