Maybe, see my post above and after examination of the cooler/fitting on the radiator you may be able to determine if you can use a 1/4" pipe tap and install the brass fittings like come in a transmission case. Keep in mind when drilling (if needed) or tapping you might ruin the cooler to the point that it leaks coolant externally. That being said, I'd try to drill minimally.

Might be safer to get a bung welded on, but that might still have to be aluminum. Worst case scenario, if you ruined the cooler to leak coolant externally, would be to put a pipe plug in it top and bottom to seal it then you would have to run external only.

Oops, not above, but previous page.

Question Re: Stripped out tranny cooler lines in new rad... :(

I know this is a old thread, but the specs. for the champion radiator say that the coolant line threads in the radiator are 1/2" -20.....not the right size for the stock flare nuts on the coolant lines. Maybe that's why some of you are stripping the threads ???

I installed a champion radiator a few months ago and the tranny cooler lines fit fine, no leaks either. Fingers crossed

Thanks for your reply...good info. I'm thinking champion changed the thread size on the newer models.

You may try and run a 5/16 -5 AN tap into it to clean up the threads..

If that won't give you enough thread to grab the line nut, tap the radiator with the next size up bottoming tap, -6 AN and get/make yourself an adapter..

Here's a good place to start for an adapter fitting, they may be able to suggest a fitting and tap you can use.

-5 AN is 1/2-20

Re: Stripped out tranny cooler lines in new rad... :(

Same here new 4 row champion. Nice radiator for the money except the internal trans cooler is why I went with this brand. Now I get the impression they don't think I know how to install inverted flared fittings. Looks like I am going to have to drill and tap.
