Mystery hole in door jam and paint question
The dealer between the original owner and myself paid for a cheap paint job. Good thing too, otherwise I may not have paid $2500 for the truck.... Anyway, they painted all kinds of things, including the door striker plates and door latch. Can you confirm these weren't painted from factory?
That and...........what's this here hole for? Thank you.

Re: Mystery hole in door jam and paint question
That hole is where the spring for the jack storage is bolted in.

My 71 GMC (Canadian truck, factory original, in the family since day 1);
strikers - factory painted black, latches - zinc plated. |

Re: Mystery hole in door jam and paint question
Thanks.......Looks like all I've got is the jack and the spring for it. Honestly, I think I was ripped off. If only I cared to know then what I do now.

Re: Mystery hole in door jam and paint question
Actually, the strikers were a black phosphate finish. You may be able to remove the paint without damaging the original finish.

Thanks for the paint info. Trever. By zinc plated, is it silver or black? I'm guessing the former. BTW, is this the original jack in your opinion? I'm guessing not. The lever in the center reads UP and DOWN. It pulls back on a spring.

Re: Mystery hole in door jam and paint question
Yeah I agree with Jim, you should be able to just strip the white off your strikers, that factory black phosphate is tough stuff. I've attached a couple pics of one of mine (front and back).
I don't have the doors handy (latches still in them) or I'd send a picture but yeah the latches are silver, typical zinc color (think typical lag-bolt, think soup can - but duller). |
