Ignition cylinder removal

I'm new to this section of the page. I frequent the 67-72 forum normally. I might be picking up a 78 Silverado driver/project today for $800, it's in pretty decent shape, will need a new hood eventually since it's got a crease but the guy says it will drive back home (45 minutes away) as long as I fill up the radiator and replace the ignition cylinder which Oreillys has for ~$14. Could someone guide me on how to replace it? I've done it a few times on my 71 but that's pretty different than a 78.. Thanks a ton in advance!

It helps if you have the steering column service kit.
You need to remove the steering wheel and horn button
then the lock plate under the steering wheel---which requires the lock plate tool and circlip removal
then remove the turn signal lever and the 3 screws that hold the turn switch
pull the turn switch up to gain access to the lock cylinder(you may have to disconnect the wire plug under the dash)
the cylinder has a small tab you push down and pull out the cylinder at the same time or it may have the bolt that retains the cylinder---I don't remember what year they changed them
Then just reverse to reinstall

My 86 had a hex head bolt retaining the cylinder. I think some of them use a torx head screw. I just did this on Saturday. Rent the lock plate tool, it can be done without it but it's a royal pain. The only thing cshades forgot is you also have to unscrew the hazard light switch. It's a simple phillips screw.
