Inner rocker fitting.

I'm doing this again, because I had it up too high before and my door rubbed, as well as I couldn't get my body line good at the bottom.

Is this correct? it doesn't seem right to me.

If that's a 73-87 it looks like your up too high.

The bottom edge of the inner rocker skin should be roughly 1" below the bottom edge of the cab support flange. Right now it looks like you have those bottom edges dead even.

You need to fit the outer rocker first, then the inner rocker, then the floor. Once all the fittting is done you weld them in the reverse order.

Correct, they are even. Does this type of inner rocker not attach to the cab support? Because I was trying to get it on the flange, otherwise it would just be attached to the kick panel.

19 seconds into this video PAUSE and you will be able to see how the inner rocker sits on the support.

Please do not turn your kick panel into swiss cheese - this video is not for anything other than that short visual reference point so you can see how the inner sits on the support. For spatial reference it helps to remember that your floor will be laying on the cab support - that should make the inner alignment easier to understand.

I don't have the full inner rocker that he has, is the issue. I have the shorter one. It either doesn't make it all the way forward to the cab mount, or it has to sit up like I have it, which is causing my confusion. Neither seems correct, and the other side is OE so I can't even reference it.

Okay, so take a look at this photo off Top Banana - click to enlarge.

To the left of the photo is the front of the inner - see how it has a curve upward and then flattens out. I think because you are using a straight piece with no curve - it's causing problems.


Now here is a picture from under my 77 longbed. Passenger side both front and rear of the cab support. You'll see how that little curve comes up (1st picture curve has flash glare reflecting off of it) and flattens out where it then sits on top of the support.

Which is sold on classic parts as an "inner Rocker", which has become apparent to me, it isn't, in the strictest sense.

One more with a window cut out. Now you should be able to see how the support meets the inner and floor.

That piece you have is a rocker panel backing plate - it sits toward the back half of the rocker. If you try to move it forward to the front half you'll get the result your seeing.
