Re: Need Advice: K20 as a Daily Driver/Everyday Truck
Your biggest concern is if it has the right drivetrain. If you get a big block truck with a sm465 and 4:10's you will probably want to be walking to work to save fuel. if you get a little small block with shorter gears you will be lookin better. I drive a 69 longhorn everyday. It's got a rebuilt 350 with a little cam/carb action. 1.72 heads, longtube headers and flow masters. I average 14 mpg on the freeway but I have 4:10's and it is kinda stressful at 55-60 being wound up to 3,150 rpms for more then 10 mins. I would love to have shorter gears or a gear vendor but I don't drive long haul very often so it's not something I'm stressing about. But for somone with a commute.. Choose wisely!

4.11 rear end, 3 speed on column, 250 straight six is my set up. When I get it running again (this summer!) I plan to stay off the interstate as much as possible. |

Re: Need Advice: K20 as a Daily Driver/Everyday Truck
I got high 13's mpg on my mostly highway trip picking the truck up in VA and driving to NY. And that was with the thing so richly jetted that it made back of the truck black, reaked like gas, and I couldn't give it more than 1/4 throttle without it it wanting to puke itself out and stall. That's with a 396, auto and 3.07's. With my new carb setup and tuned right I don't see why 15's aren't possible. My 2000 5.3 Silverado half ton gets about 12.5. Remember weight. My old Suburban? About 4,000lbs. My newer pickup? Around 5,200 - I've weighed it. Weight makes a HUGE difference.
