Tailgate rods...how do they install?

Searched through dozens of tailgate threads but have not found the answer

I have a new tailgate and hardware for my 72 K5 but I am at a loss as to how the rods are connected and which end is which. Does anyone have a pic or diagram? I also assume there must be some kind of clip that keeps the rods in place but I have nothing... You would think those might have been included with the rods but no such luck.

there is an excellent line drawing diagram in the assembly manual. The assembly manual along with the various service manuals and a parts manual are affordable and really a must have to service and repair these trucks.
