Re: oil pressure stumps me

Those things should not effect the oil pressure. Did you change oil at the same time? Your old oil may have been thinned out or you may be using a thicker grade of oil. Does it come down after it warms up? You need to put a master gauge on it & see how high it is really going. 50-60 lbs is OK. If it goes up to 100 or more you have a stuck relief valve.

The relief valve where you screw on the oil filter is to bypass the filter when the engine is cold. The relief valve is in the oil pump itself. Like Wrenchbender said, stick a mechanical gauge on that has numbered graduation on it and see what the pressure really is.

Re: oil pressure stumps me

use the correct filter, not just one that fisically fits. some pressure relief valves are in the filter and some are in the pump. They can fight each other and give the erradic pressure indications you decribe.

but mor information might be nessessarry

is pressur erradic when the oil is cold, is it erradic only on accelaration

what is oil pressure when warmed up and idleing.

what is pressure warmed up and at cruis.
