Re: Got my 65 running today!

Looks great! Is that grill a C40/50/60 style? If so, how did you mount the Chevrolet in the middle? I have one but the letters are on top of the grill.

yes.

grind off the three rivets that hold the letters on.
there is a center support for the bowtie, cut that out.
there is a center support on the rear of the grille that is riveted on.

set the letters where you want them against that support. you will be able to drill a hole in that support and bolt the center of the letters to it.

(clamp the letters in place and put the grille in a grille support at the right angle -in a truck would be best- I did the whole project on the bench, and it turned out that I got the letters up about 1/2 inch higher than what looked good, so I had to take the whole thing apart and drill some new holes)

once you have the center mounted you need to make some side brackets- what I ended up doing was using some 1/2 inch square tubing that I had laying around. I got the letters straight and level in the grille, and then cut and drilled the tubing to size. the top hole of the tubing bolts to where the rivet used to be on the grille, and the bottom to the rivet hole on the letters.

Awesome bud! I was originally thinking I was going to leave the center bowtie and then float the letters back behind but I am liking this look better.
