2 piecs drive shaft
Can someone explain to me where the "slip" is on the rear section of a 2 piece driveshaft? I know the yoke slips in the front. My mind tells me that the rear needs 'slip" also, if not more than the front. Am I thinking wrong?

Not the best pictures.but I installed a new carrier brg. and u joints in my 2 pc. shaft about a month ago. The only (slip) point is at the transmission. The yoke just behind the carrier bearing is bolted the other shaft.

I should add that my truck is a '67 c-10 with a trailing arm suspension. Not sure about a leaf spring setup

I have done the same thing. Mine is a 71 SWB trailing arm. Just wondering what happens when the rear end travels up & down. Something has to give somewhere.

I'm no engineer. but it appears the carrier bearing rubber boot gives it enough play. the bracket and rubber is what failed on my driveshaft. the bearing itself was good. I replaced as a whole to be safe. The bracket actually broke where it bolts to the crossmember (back and forth motion???)

With a trailing arm suspension the trailing arms and the rear axle pivot in exactly the same arc as the driveshaft. No slip joint is needed. Any tiny amount of movement allowed by chassis flex is accommodated by the center bearing floating in a rubber mount and a slip joint at the transmission.

As Rich69shortfleet said, I'm under the impression the smaller style driveshaft has no telescoping component in the middle - just a slip yoke in the back of the transmission and adequate movement built into the carrier bearing assembly.
