New member from NH with a 67 K10 CST

I am a new member who just bought a 1967 K10. I have been reading this forum for a while to learn what I need to know about GM trucks between 62 and 72, so that when I found one I would know what to look for and what to stay away from.

I found this truck on CL in NH. It has a factory 327 w/4-Speed, and has the CST trim package. At some point in its life someone restored it, and most of that work has held up pretty well, but some will need to be refreshed. The PO had recently gone through everything to pass a NH vehicle inspection, and he did a great job. I wanted a driver that I can use while I work on it.

It has newer axles with open knuckles and drum brakes on the front, and although it is a 67, it has the marker lights on the fenders, which I understand did not show up until 68. I am very happy with it and will be using it for weekend errands. Today it will make its debut at the transfer station.

Thanks! My plans are to restore it over time while I drive/use it. It will be used for trips to the dump and hardware store, etc, even after I put a new wood bed in it.

The important thing for me is to keep it as stock as possible.

Howdy from NH !

Love the swb 4x4's ! The truck looks like it in pretty good shape. Keep it out of the NH salt in the winters, or it will disappear before your eyes. "lOL"

I love the spare tire cutout stepside!

Spares belong where they are easy to get to.

No, unfortunately it does not have the buddy buckets. That is the only CST item that is not with the truck. It has a chevy bench in it now, but I can see myself looking for the correct seats at some point.

Its only been in the driveway a couple of days, and I am starting to prioritize some of the work I want to do.

First thing is the steering coupler (rag joint). It is completely shot and I am surprised the PO didn't address that. The repair kit came today, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is a trouble free install. I have read several threads in here with varying levels of success with some of the kits.

Here are a couple of more pictures taken before I hosed out the interior and de-greased the engine. Both made a big difference. I even pulled the seat out and washed underneath it.

Re: New member from NH with a 67 K10 CST

Here are a couple of before and after shots of the steering coupler. It was much worse than I thought. I took it to the transfer station the other day and it is 1/2 mile round trip. I knew not to go far until it was fixed.

The steering column was not adjusted forward enough, and those pins on the coupler were not hitting the shaft. Could have had a total steering failure if I went on open road.

The repair went well. I got the universal kit from Summit, and it had the parts I needed.

Re: New member from NH with a 67 K10 CST

Yea that rag joint needed replaced! Nice truck looks to be in real nice shape, and welcome , don't forget to stop in the 4X4 projects and builds page when ya feel like.

Maybe later trace the vin number and it can tell you about if the truck was original step side short box ect. The 67 also did not have a dimple in the frame where the steering gear sits next to it, i think there was some exceptions in the later manufactured frames?

If ya haven't found it yet do an advanced search for "67 differences" and there is a thread or two with lots of good info.

Re: New member from NH with a 67 K10 CST

Total coolness. Welcome to the board. I love me some small window Stepside. I'm surprised a safety inspection would let a bad rag joint get by. Real vote of confidence there. Oh well, high dollar Lexus are currently being recalled for failed drive by wire creating a no steering situation.
I guess the trim was removed in the restoration. I see '69 door panels. So it must have a '70 front axle and steering. Same steering from '70 to many years beyond.

There is a whole lot in between those two
