need help identifying reason for hole in door post
I am doing a frame off resto on a 1972 GMC suburban 4x4 3/4 ton.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=708597 I am working on he re-skinning the drivers door and there is a drilled hole about 3/8" half way up the door post next to the vent window. Only on the driv ers side. Pic attached. P.O. has no idea what was there. It was a Texas Parks vehicle. Maybe a spotlight? Or Peep mirror? Any ideas. I'm kinda thinking of putting a spotlight back on it. I looked at the unity site and the door post is a possible position. Any ideas? |

A spotlight would usually go through the A pillar. That looks to be a mounting hole of some sort - maybe a spot mirror?

Re: need help identifying reason for hole in door post
The thing is, I looked into these peep mirors and they seem to sort of clip onto the side and have a couple smaller screws holding them on. Seems like no reason to drill a big hole.
But yeah I looked through 100 pics and can't find a spot light mounted to a door. It's not on the spidf so maybe just weld over it and pretend it never happened? If i add a spot it seems like the windshield pillar is a better place. |

I found the same hole in my driver door when I took it down to metal , welded it up and never gave it much thought .

Re: need help identifying reason for hole in door post
Apologies for hijack potential. Hole looks way wrong to be for a spotlight. In support of the above, most of the spotlights I have seen go through the A pillar. Mine is lower and goes through the dash to the left of the cluster and comes out through the cowl. It is a Unity. (pic is not a 72, but the same idea)

I believe those holes are for the upper support bracket of a Below-the-Eyeline Mirror. You can see similar holes [with special low-crown bolts with shaved 6th points] in the door rim of my '68 C/10 to mount West Coast Jr Mirrors.

check out this thread about post 2
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...hlight=mirrors I know it is an earlier year but a friend of mine has a 67 and has simialer mirrors on his. With the amount of holes in that door it looks like the varios PO's have tried just about every mirror possible. Cal. Last edited by 65 C20; 06-23-2016 at 01:03 PM. Reason: wrong thread first time |
