I need a little help with 3 questions that have been bugging me about my '52.

1. How do you remove the two bushings that are mounted in the front spring's rear spring hanger (pic shown after heating and beating on it to no avail)?

2. I haven't been able to find these for sale. Where would I find replacements?

3. This is on a 2 ton. I know the rear suspension hangers pins and bushing interchange from 3/4 ton up, but do the front suspension parts interchange from the 3/4 up as well?

I honestly didn't know they had bushings but I have never worked on the suspension on that size truck.

If you already have the replacement bushings I would gently slot the old bushings with a hack saw blade. Then they should pop right out. I'd make sure that bushings were available first though.

It could be I'm missing some details in your attached picture but typically bushing material is dissimilar when compared to the supporting structure around the bushing and in your picture it appears to be all steel.

If someone makes a bushing get dimensions and then compare that with what you have on your truck. If in fact you have a separate bushing I agree with Mr48.. slice or cut the bushing with a hacksaw blade or some other method and it should pop right out. You'll likely need to put the new bushings in the freezer and warm the frame for installation. Just be careful the bushing mass is so small compared to the frame once they touch the bushings will rapidly heat up and expand.

Yeah, that's not a very good picture. Since I heated it up, you can't really tell where the bushing is. Here are some better pics

I can see the threads for the bolt in the near leg in the top photo just as they are on all other AD truck spring hangers. The only bushings are in the end of the spring.

You stick the new spring bolt in from the smooth side and tighten it into the threaded side and put the lock nut on it and that is where it stays it doesn't move in the bracket or at lest never should move in the bracket. Since it doesn't move it doesn't need a bushing.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
