50 gmc gauges
hello couple gauge questions 1) stock temp gauge on 350 what are you guys doing sensor is to short 2) there was some 12v conversion done on truck is there a way to tell if the gauges were done thanks

http://www.classicparts.com/1947-51-.../#.V3Nrno7F7dQ if you want to know if the gauges have been converted to 12v, check the bulbs, they will be marked 6v if unconverted. most of the gauges are mechanical and 12/6v will not matter (the GMC also uses an ammeter which doesnt matter what voltage), but the gas gauge will have either a converter on it or will have been replaced with a 12v version, which is why I say to check the bulbs. although I did a couple 6v/12v switchovers on VW bugs in my younger days and we just left the bulbs 6v so they would be brighter. left the starter 6v too, extra rpm!

I've actually been researching the same thing.
Longer oil pressure tube, longer coolant tube, runts resistor, etc... If I'm not mistaken you can buy a converted fuel guage too. VDO makes a 12 heater motor that works also. Looks like I didn't scroll down the page far enough. I knew there was a difference between the Chev and GMC gauges but couldn't remember what.

Here's just an idea that I had awhile back. I had some LED tape leftover from a job I did. (I'm an electrician)
I hooked it up to a 14v drill battery. They are bright, but dimmable, plus you can get about any collor you want. BTW, those are cell phone pics, they look alot brighter than they actually were. |
