It can't possibly fit ! Steering Column issue

Hey gang, how in the world do I swap out the wire loom in the steering column in my 72 GMC with tilt, TH400, 402 extra long bed (it's not a longhorn, that would be Chevrolet, what do I call mine, other than extra long?).

Anyone with some steering column advice, I'd sure appreciate some ideas. Got it all apart, top of harness just hanging and can't get fitting up through to top.

Thanks in advance for your ideas. This is probably on 50 other threads already and I can't see 'em cause my eyes are shot today. CousinTone

You need to remove the wires from the hub and reattach them after you pull it through the column. Although I have read that some guys can get it through the column by loosening some pieces, but I never fought that battle.

I believe the GMC version of the longhorn is called a Custom Camper.

Re: It can't possibly fit ! Steering Column issue

I just switched out a turn signal ass. this morning. I make a good diagram of the wires and plug, then take some pics. Then pull the ends out of the plug and thread em down the columm and put the wires and plug back together. pretty simple that way.
