"Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
I found the company Lost Highway Art and they sell real authentic vintage decals in the shape of the states. I bought 3 for the states where dads truck has lived and put them on the back window of the '71. They look great! The company owner dick was very helpful all along the way. If you're into this sort of thing I highly recommend him. Can be found online.

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
Sorry the pic is sideways. Mr potato head is really awesome! There's some very interesting history to these too. The NM one has 3 misspelled names and one name that had been changed in 1950 but not reflected on the decal. According to Dick, many of the companies that produced these were fly by night types and just copied others designs (cheaper than hiring their own artist) , changed the spelling of some towns so they could catch the next guy copying them, then produced the decal for tourists! Greed! Even 40 years ago! Some of the companies were not fly by night and spelled the names correctly. Hahaha. What a good story! The sticker stays and with it's story too.

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
Thanks guys. Bruceman,,,wow, they look great! I think you were the one a few years back that got me thinking about these. Yes a flag too. Check the spelling on yours (see post no. 2.)
SSTim, no! Too hot! Me and the truck would both fry! I think they're fun and add to the "historic ness" of the truck. They do require very special care putting them on since they're old but Dick sends special instructions for that. I've purchased one other online off eBay and it totally dissolved as soon as I put it into water. Last edited by dads longhorn; 06-26-2016 at 07:57 AM. |

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
These are actual "NOS" stickers - not reproductions?

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
Those are neat. I prefer the decals over the stickers. I have a pretty large collection of vintage window decals, and I have a lot of the state ones. Ive posted a bunch of them before in the general area (somewhere). Id like to see the directions for actually using a vintage decal. Im afraid if I ever try to use them they will disintegrate.

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
Those are so tacky. Just like so many souvenir shop items, and I collect them all!! Very cool to see someone reproduces these. I have a collection of old stock state stickers that I would never use. I'll have to look into these. In '89 when I took the camper truck to the SW I was able to find some still in shops along Rt 66. I have some girlie ones, too. For the Custom Camper I had gathered enameled state and parks magnets I kept on the cooler in the camper (not a refrigerator) and glovebox door. Those are the perfect touch on the Longhorn. I also got some new made vinyl ones I stuck on the top of my Coleman stove

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
In the late 60s and early 70s our family would take summer vacations in our 1969 Chrysler Town and Country station wagon. We had these same decals along each side rear window when we let the car go. I don't know how many states that was but we couldn't fit any more on the two windows. These bring back some really good memories when I look at them. I have continued to travel the US since then and I'm up to 48 states (Alaska and Hawaii are missing).

OP says "They do require very special care putting them on since they're old
"
Sounds like they're "NOS".

Re: "Lost Highway Art" state decals are great
I read that too, but it sure looks like they are vinyl, not water slides.
Here are a couple of my old ones. I cant find the pics right now of the larger bunch.
