235 pressure plate
I ordered a clutch kit for my 1957 chevy 3/4 ton truck with a 235 from LMC Truck and the pressure plate won't bolt up. Has anyone seen this problem before? Did the 3/4 ton use a larger pressure plate? I cant find a listing for one anywhere.

I am not an expert, but when I replaced the clutch on my 55' 3600, I noticed that several sizes were available/mentioned on catalogues. I so removed the worn out one and measured it. It was a 10" and 10 splines one. Ordered it (not at LMC's) and installed it without any problem.

Here's what I know:
1. there is a 10 inch clutch and eleven inch clutch option. 2. there are some flywheels that were manufactured with a step so that your machinist will need to grind both surfaces, and restore the step on the face. 3. There are short throw out bearings and long throw out bearings. You have to check what was in your truck when you took it apart. Sometimes, the quick disengage clutches came with a thin clutch with a thinner diaphragm spring and long bearing. The shorter throw out bearings came with a clutch with a pedal set up with a longer clutch pedal throw. It would seem that GM had deeper bellhousings and shallow bellhousings, and made parts to fit back then. BTW, I have a stepped clutch for sale for $100 with a bearing. I think it is a 10 inch.

It always astounds me that guys will order hard parts from specialty houses rather than pull the part out and take it to a local parts house and match it up.
One thing on parts like clutches and flywheels unless you are positive that nothing has been changed from original you often don't know what someone swapped around in the past and it may have a different flywheel and clutch setup in it than it came with stock. Oreillys is showing a 10 inch clutch setup for a 57 3600 truck with a 235. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...1351&ppt=C0015 Is your disk 10 inch or smaller or larger? The other thing, did you get the part number you ordered? They may have shipped the wrong clutch.
