3/4 ton 5.7 diesel?

Hi guys, I was wondering if GM ever produced a 3/4 or 1 ton with the 5.7 diesel? I'm looking for the fender emblems specifically. I thought I saw a pair online once but cant remember. I know they were mostly 1/2 tons because i have a few of those.

No 5.7 not 6.2. 6.2s were all through the 80s. I mean the 5.7 olds diesel that came out in 78.

From everything I've ever been able to find, they were only available in 1/2 ton pickups, blazers, and suburbans.

Re: 3/4 ton 5.7 diesel?

The Oldsmobile 350 diesel was only available in the C10... GM didn't offer the 350 Diesel in the 3/4 ton chassis nor was it offered with 4WD.

The only diesel offered in the squarebody 3/4 ton trucks was the 6.2L Detroit AMG.

Open the 1978-1980 vehicle information kits from the GM heritage centre and page down to the engine information for the 350 Diesel. Under Applications they list Standard: C10 Diesel Pickup Optional: NONE.

Re: 3/4 ton 5.7 diesel?

Last year for the 5.7 Olds Diesel was 1981. Here is the only example I have ever seen. Talked to the gentleman who owns this truck and he has owned it since 1984. He also told me he personally pulled the 5.7 diesel and swapped in a 350 Olds gas V8. Next time I see him I will get a picture of the spid.

I remember a co-worker had an 1981 with a 350 Diesel back in 1988 but that's 28 years ago.
When I checked the literature and it did not mention any Diesel engines in 1981 I assumed my recollection was a mistake.
It's entirely possible it was available in early production and then dropped. Lots of options are that way.

It's on the second column on the back page of the 1981 brochure. My uncle bought one new. His next truck was an 84 with the 6.2...

Re: 3/4 ton 5.7 diesel?

We had a 1/2 ton swb with the naturally aspirated 6.2 diesel.

I want to say it was an '82.

There we are. Docs... Didn't want to say 1981 when I couldn't back it up. Oh Well... Nuff said.

Re: 3/4 ton 5.7 diesel?

I've been trying to find an example of an '81 with a 5.7 for years! Thanks for posting those pics. I was wondering if the badging was anything special...and it's not. Mystery solved.

I love and still daily drive my '78 shorty with a 5.7 diesel to this day. Wouldn't give it up for anything.

Re: 3/4 ton 5.7 diesel?

After looking at my own pictures, I notice that I didn't pay any attention to the hood ornament. I wonder, if it says diesel or what? I do know that some 6.2 Diesel trucks had 6.2 DIESEL on the ornament. I see this truck often and will try to get a picture of the hood ornament.
