Doug's D300Y Header Fitment

Are any of you running Doug's Tri-Y headers on your k10's or v10's? If so, please let me know how they fit for you.

I picked up a set of D300Y's for my engine build, when i installed them last weekend the passenger side has very little clearance between the frame and the leaf spring hardware. The driver side is perfect. I've installed new engine and motor mounts.

When i called to speak with Doug's they said they're made with a rigid jig and its very unlikely to be a mistake in fabrication. I figure Doug's has a long list of excuses they can use to get out of the fitment problem. I spoke with Jegs and they told me I could exchange them but I'm stuck with the return freight charges.

I'd like to keep them , as i spent several weeks making the decision.

Suggestions anybody?

passenger 1 - front of truck at bottom of photo. not much clearance between spring and header tube
passenger 2 - front of truck to right of photo. header is against the frame / suspension bumper
passenger 3 - front of truck at bottom of photo. very little clearance between header & frame
passenger 4 - front of truck to left of photo. frame to header clearance
passenger 5 - front of truck at top of photo. better photo of header / spring.

Re: Doug's D300Y Header Fitment

I would send those pics to Doug's and tell them their rigid jigs need some adjustment and everybody on the internet agrees. I thought Doug's put out a quality product but those headers fit very badly. I even thought the tri Y design would make for more clearance everywhere. Those may be the worst fitting headers that I have seen. I wouldn't use them. They are either the wrong headers or very poorly designed. They need to go back and you may have to eat some money if Doug's doesn't stand behind their product.

Re: Doug's D300Y Header Fitment

When you talked to Doug's did you specify that you have a 4x4? Pretty much every header manufacturer I've looked at says their products will work with 2wd trucks but won't guarantee fitment on 4x4's. When I talked to someone at Holley about that they said it's because there are too many variables with different spring and shackle combinations to guarantee a one size fits all product...

Re: Doug's D300Y Header Fitment

JIMs70GMC --- thanks for taking the time to take a few pics and upload.

NorCalAnthony -- Yeah, i called Doug's directly before i decided to shell out the $600 for the headers. They told me they would fit.
let me finish this with i've filled out the online tech support asking them to call me, never got a call or an email. i had to call the pertronix 800 # and they gave me the name & email of the technical guy at dougs to send the photo's to -- Don Lindfors. I spend 30 minutes preparing an email to him with all the details and photographs --- never got a response.

On a sidenote, i noticed the Doug's box says "made in mexico". I wonder how they were going to compare it to their jig when i mailed it to them in california... overall, not real impressed on Doug's response. last time i buy a set of Dougs headers

I ended up making another call to Jegs last week. Jegs is taking care of the return freight and giving me a refund.

I spent the extra cash for Hooker super comp 2827-1 (25% more), Jegs technical recommended them also --- my goodness they are expensive, but the application on these are 4x4 only.

i'll let ya'll know how they turn out.

Scary stuff! All I've ever heard about Doug's headers are good things. I was looking at the D300 Tri-Y headers for my 82 C10. Their website does not show a phone number or e-mail address, which is cause for concern, but I did send them a message with a few questions. Guess we'll see how long it takes to get a response.

Whatever I buy, I'll get from Summit Racing because those guys are great at paying return freight on parts that don't fit. Glad Jeg's is stepping up to the plate for you.
