Having second thoughts on color - Again

I've had this problem for 25 years or so. Never saw a doctor for it, but I need to decide fairly quickly. This picture is truck original, only the lower moldings added. Not sure about the rear end moldings however, on either truck.

I've envisioned Ochre with lower moldings in my garage quite a bit lately, and happened to come across this sample. Looks dropped, maybe 4x6? I'm looking at 2.5/4, if at all. Considering my truck options + true restoration close, I like the idea a lot.

Edit: It almost looks orange. I'm colored/shade blind to extent.

Fresh Ochre and white is hard to beat. It's one of those colors that a lot of people don't think they will like, until it's a new paint job sitting next to them. Then it really pops, and makes you appreciate all those beautiful ochre trucks.

Exactly. Nearly everyone I know says don't do Ochre, including all my relatives.

Edit: Other difference is lenses. Mine will be standard. Wheels always optional. I believe the tires in the pic are 60s.

X2 and with that being said for me the 2.5 frt 4 inch rear drop is enough on a truck. If you are sticking with a 15 inch rim I'd go with P255/70 x 15 on an 8inch wide rim on all for corners. 80's Rallys always look great on our trucks.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

The rear has me stumped. Seems full moldings on the rear without uppers is a little off. I wouldn't add uppers with that two tone. Might look trick with just the lower molding on the rear. Or perhaps the lower and taillight bezels.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

how about upper trim only? it was a factory option, looks good and will definitely be unique. i think upper trim only on solid body color with a white top would be awesome.

btw that first pic looks like yellow and a 2.5/4 drop to me.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

First picture looks great... DO IT!! There, that takes care of that

I think if you do any rear end trim at all you should do upper and lower. I think it looks right. It's how these perfect beauties came, after all. Nybe do a mildly custom yet looks like factory coulda or shoulda done and paint the tailgate white the way a deluxe 2-tone would be. Take some of that white it's wearing on it's head and put a little on it's a...butt.
My first truck was an all ochre Highlander short Fleetside with upper only trim. That would look good with white top...and that white tail

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

Thanks for the responses.

Was lower trim only a factory option?

About that rear trim K, do you recommend upper & lowers with or without the TL bezels?

I hate to pick on you but, if your are color blind can't you change the perceived color at will? Sorry I couldn't help myself.

Light red or hugger with white roof for me....if I was picking a color from scratch.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

i agree with timmy. the upper and lower and tail light trim all tie together nicely by design and imho they don't look "right" when separated.

tony i know you're all about "originality", are you going to regret painting the truck anything but the factory paint scheme? my 68 was originally black with a white roof. i am more of a green or blue guy, but i just can't get myself to paint it anything but black. the white roof i am still undecided.

Ha ha haaaaa........not necessarily. Hugger orange is real nice. There are a ton of beautiful stock options without even factoring in trim level. If it was original or I had a 350 Cheyenne I'd certainly consider this. Especially if I had a wood bed. Beautiful......Yellow is fantastic. I just had to see a nice paint job. Looks real bad faded.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

Ochre is my 2nd favorite color on these trucks. Especially in 2-tone.
I like the look of just lower moldings. Looks cleaner IMO The above truck is mine, the below one is one that was for sale in Washington a few years ago that I should've bought. I like the below look with just the lower moldings better.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

I agree lajoie, but your truck looks great. Here's an example of full rear moldings and just the lower molding in two-tone. Another color I've pondered over.

Re: Having second thoughts on color - Again

Paint color has to be one of the hardest decisions for our builds. I went through four color schemes before coming up with my build theme. I am set now. It is embedded into my mind what I am doing and there is no turning back. I love the yellow and white and the upper and lower trim packages.
