Just bought a 67 GMC. My first truck of this body type...
3/4 ton 2wd. I'm not much of a mechanic but I try. I love these old trucks though. Having a lot of fun researching the VIN and the engine numbers. This board is great too. I have learned a lot by starting at the back of the messages - 47xx - and slowly working my way to the front. Thanks for keeping those available.
I have some questions: What is the DD stamped below the VIN in the door jam mean? Can't seem to find a reference. I read in earlier posts that the engine stamp does not match in the VIN. Is that true? If not then I believe this old farm truck has the original 283 engine. BMV has this truck original miles and engine looks like it belongs. No rattles or shakes when I drive it and everything is still tight. There are snaps around the back window inside. Are those from the factory? Thanks! Aultro |

No Vin stamps on truck engines.
However, if you knew someone at the factory, you could get a Corvette engine installed ![]() ![]() ![]()

What is the casting number on the back of the block? It's on the ledge behind the driver's side cylinder head. Here are some 1967 283 casting numbers:
3849935 3896944 3896948 More numbers here for 283s and other small blocks: http://www.mortec.com/castnum.htm

Re: Just bought a 67 GMC. My first truck of this body type...
Thanks for the positives. I get a lot of looks and compliments on the truck. I went to Good Guys last weekend in Columbus and there were at least 50 or so 67-72's there. All were 1/2 ton except one and it was 4wd.
The sticker on the glove box door is gone so I have no help with the DD on the VIN plate. Does anyone else have it? The casting number is 3896944. I still runs well. Everything is still there except for an air cleaner. Still looking for a period correct one at a reasonable price. Also how do I post pictures without them rotating 90 degrees? Thanks again |

I have snaps on the inside of my rear window too.
I was told, in my case, it could have been for a weather protector of sorts for a camper pass thru window. !00%...dunno. BTW...nice truck. Plans for it? Need more pics(grin). HTH...don t. .... |

Re: Just bought a 67 GMC. My first truck of this body type...
Correct. Since this is a 3/4 ton it is possible it once carried a slide in camper with a window right behind the truck window. There were "boots" available that were used to pass through from camper to cab. Both windows were removed and both ends of the boot were secured with snaps.

Nice looking truck. Some nice steel wheels and caps and drive like you stole it.
