1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Over the past 2 years ive been building what could loosely be called a truck, lol, out of 2 shells of trucks i had laying around. 1 was a 68 c10 shortbed stepside, the other was a 70 gmc c30 wrecker. This is what it turned into. Its not for everybody, but its somethin!!!

Hey thanks, i appreciate that. I got a bunch of trade offers, nothing that got me interested though. I almost had it sold, but then the guys wife put her foot down and said "no way", lol.

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Really cool build, I would love to learn all the ins and outs of building and fabricating to make things work. Is that a diesel?!

Are those Cragar soft 8's in the front? If so what size? I'm lookin at a set for my C10 because I'm too much of a tight wod for Weld Draglites lol

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Thanks for the compliment. Im in the process of writing up a build thread on it. Its a gas job, no diesel. The wheels are "vision wheels soft 8", same design as the cragers, but a little less money. I wanted something that looked like the dually wheels with the hand holes. I got them from summitracing, size 16x8, 5x5 bolt pattern, with 4 inches of back spacing.

Looks like you had two decent trucks, especially that C3500

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Special-k, both trucks had good and bad. The gmc was a tennesee truck i found in new york, it had a nice body, but the frame was cut and not put back together to well. It seemed to run well with no strange noises or smoking, but when i tore the motor down i found the block had cracks in the lifter valley. The short bed truck was an ex-show truck that was blown apart for a refresh when the owner passed away and then it got left in a field for a few years. That one had a nice frame and bed, but everything else was rotted and didnt have a motot or trans. Thats when i had the idea to use the best parts from each to make one. Seemed like a good idea at the time, lol, but that still only gave me about 40% of what i needed to complete it. Everything else had to be bought elsewhere.

Throw that good bumper from the GMC on the front and I'll like it more lol, otherwise it's pretty cool.

Newtricks, i still have that bumper, but isnt as nice as it looks. It is decent but its got a dent in it and i wasnt sure how it was going to look without having any other chrome on the truck. Maybe youre right and with the dent, itll go with the rat theme.

Or paint it red and leave the dent

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

It has a cool nature about it. I was just making an observation from looking at pictures. IIt's not way out there rat rod, but definitely somewhere in the "creation" realm w/o taking it too far from it's origins. I think a mocked up tow boom would set it off big time!

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Thanks special-k. Maybe calling it a rat isnt the best choice on my part, it doesnt have any rust. I really wasnt sure what to call it though. Putting a boom in the back would keep it close to its origins, like you say, because half of it was a wrecker from garys body shop out of Tennessee.

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Man that brings back some memories. I did a 1 ton dually short bed step side last year. Sold it in March at the Goodguys show in AZ.
I like what you have done with it.

Cool truck you built here! How does it ride with the duals in the back and that short wheel base?

Re: 1968 c10 dually crossbreed thing!!

Thanks guys!! Dieselwrencher, its a handful on the highway. It tends to wander a bit because of the wheel offsets on our terrible uneven PA interstates, and the ride is a little rough over sharp bumps because of the stiff 19.5 inch tires. It may ride a little better with a tire that has sidewall thats not so heavy. It is a custom lowered truck so you cant expect a cadillac type ride, right, lol.

The ride on my 68 1 ton dually was so bad. Like an empty dump truck bouncing down the road.
Very cool to have something different though.
