Original Shoulder Belts 67-72 ??'s

Does any body here have information and or pictures of the original shoulder 3 point belts system. I believe they were an Option from the traditional Lap belts on our trucks since there is a mounting hole up by your shoulders area L&R side of the cab.**The area that I am mostly interested in is at the drivers side where the gas tank is. Wondering if there is a special bracket that was used to put the retractable mechanism away from the gas tank?

Tom Koranic sell aftermarket 3 point belts and there is an L bracket included to move it away from the tank. He had a post for them on the for sale site about 2 weeks ago.

The originals are much like an extra set of lap belts with the male (tab) ends attached to the B pillar where the plastic plugs are located and the female (buckle) ends attached to the bolts in the floor shared with the corresponding lap belts. The first picture below is from the assembly manual. The second is of a set I found in a 72 Blazer. The cutoff ends and boots in the center of the second picture are from the rear seat of the Blazer. A pain to use.

I am Not looking for info on Aftermarket seat belts. My Question is for "Original" installed 3 point Retractable belt system.

Again I am NOT looking for Aftermarket seat belts info. I an looking for "ORIGINAL" 3 point seat belts info.

I've seen pictures on this forum before. The lap belt system is the same in all trucks and, IIRC, the shoulder harnesses are like an add-on without retractors.

There were no 3 point belts in 67/72 trucks. First Owner gave an accurate description and pics. The factory shoulder belts were nothing more than another non retractable belt that went across your chest. They are very impractical to say the least.

So would I be right in assuming that in lets say 68 the seat belts (3 point) really isn't any thing like what is being sold as 3 point retractable seat belts today? With that said you are telling me that the seat belts back in 68 consist of a Lap belt and a separate shoulder belt with its own buckle? The driver would have Two buckles?



As I posted this I saw two more inputs for my question that I understand as 67-72 having No retractable or 3 point seat belts system at all. Thanks for all that posted what now makes sense to me.

Yes, the lap belt used for the "3 point" was exactly the same as the trucks with just a lap belt. There was then an extra adjustable female buckle on the seat and a non adjustable male end went over the shoulder, and when not in use you folded the buckle into the sleeve.

By today's standards, they suck. If you're not wearing it snugly you're going to get injured, whereas modern belts have the tensioner for accidents. They're also a pretty rare option that hardly come up for sale in good condition, and i don't think I've seen any repops yet.

I've been looking at these trucks for many years, and have only seen a couple sets in restored factory condition trucks.

They are not a pain to use: they just require a little more attention than the ones you're used to today. Spent years wearing the equivalent ones in a '71 Impala. I really like the fact that you can choose to wear the shoulder strap or not.
