I Finally Got The Truck!

well, I finally got it. it's a 67 C10 LWB with a 250 sixer that, since it's got an exhaust manifold leak and a glasspack on a straightpipe, it sounds like a cross between a ricer and a top fuel hemi...weird... the only photo I've got at the moment is attached and here's what the motor sounds like:

http://www.angelfire.com/in4/cardroo...rts/truck1.wav

Since it's 60 seconds of a wav file, I doubt it's very dialup friendly, so I wouldn't try it on a dialup. Right click and do a save-as.

This thing is going to need a frame off resto to get it to the quality I want it, but it'll be good for hacking around at the moment.

well, here's a general parts list of the pieces that have rust holes in them bad enough to need replaced and pieces that are missing or broken -

BROKEN/MISSING STUFF:
both side trim pieces
rear trim
heater controls
stereo antenna
gas gauge
speedo
oil pressure gauge (blows oil everywhere)
PS rearview mirror

TOO RUSTED TO FIX:
inner fenders
rockers
doors
cab corners (behind the doors)
battery tray

the wood in the bed needs replaced as well as the steel strips in the bed. Also, one of the front corners on the bed is rusted through as well as the floor in the rear DS corner and along the sides of the floorboards where the doors are. the PS door doesn't open from the inside, door locks are stuck unlocked, windows are stiff, DS door doesn't latch unless you slam it closed as hard as you can, seatbelts are rusty and/or really gross and none of teh gauges work well (for instance, the speedo is about 20 MPH too slow - IE - reads 20 when you're doing 43 MPH, etc.).

I"m thinking of making it two tone where the color split is along the side bodyline with the upper color either being red or the silvery/gold color that it originally was and the interior still is and the bottom being black. the interior is going to be a black tuck 'n roll bench seat with piping in whatever color the top color will be. the motor is going to be the stock 250, but I'd like to hot-rod it with a hot cam, 4 BBL intake, header, circle track head and a .060 overbore. it's gonna get a 4" drop and the stock steelies painted black with the poverty caps (I have all 4 but took off the 2 on the DS at the moment) painted the color that the top of the truck is. I've found all the stuff for the truck that I'm gonna need except the PS rearview mirror (I'd like to keep the style that is on it now) and the metal bed strips.

The only dents on the entire thing is on the hood where teh V is in Chevrolet and a dent in the PS wheel housing.

another sound clip - this is of the sixer revving up. I think I"m gonna keep the glasspack on it I really like that sound...

http://www.angelfire.com/in4/cardroo...rts/truck2.wav

As an aside, I'm amazed at how basic this thing is. I'm used to my 307 in the delta with it's miles of rubber vacuum lines and this has ONE steel line going to the carb. it's got a whole 2 belts - one for the fan and one for the alternator. the only can that's in there is for the wiper fluid. there's absolutely NOTHING in the engine compartment, and when I was working on it, I found myself sitting on the inner fenders a lot because the motor was too far in for my little arms to work on. Everything is iron so I don't have to deal with steel bolts freezing in aluminum like on the 307's intake, I didn't have to deal with the automatic choke or a big complicated computerized qjet, and everything on the drivetrain is very straightforward. I love it.

Wow, I got one like that for $300. drove her home. Same west coast mirrors as yours. A little less rust since I"m in OKLA , 292, 3speed, I ran down the history, found out it had a new 3speed in it. I'm getting ready to put in a 283 in it I think or perhaps a 350 I have lying around. MIne has 196K on it!!! All original to the am radio. Poor thing was used to chase coyotes at one time.

thanks guys. I think I"m going to leave the 250 in it and hot-rod it a bit. I've got a line on headers and a 4 BBL intake for it, that should help it down low where I want it (it's going to be towing Howitzer cannons this summer). eventually a .060 overbore and all that happy stuff. I want to keep the same mirrors when I restore it, but I need to find a flat PS mirror for it. the one that came with it was on the floor and fell apart when I tried to take it apart because the bolt was too rotted. Also, it was like half a hexagon, so it was kinda weird... If that's how it's supposed to be, then I guess I'll get one of those, but I'd like to have 2 flat mirrors.

I found out that this truck was owned by a handyman in town that used it for work, so it probably rarely saw over 35 MPH in it's life. then it was bought by some chick from Indy who used it in town (in Culver, not Indy) as transportation and stuff, then it sat for 6 years and now I have it. everything on it is totally original, but someone pulled apart the carb and really hacked it up, the friggin accelerator pump was sitting in the float bowl! anyway, it's got a rebuilt carb now too, and it runs marginally better, but I had a catastrophic leak from one of the carb's gaskets and I couldn't figure it out, but it was just one that didn't seat well when I put it together.

If I do put a V8 in it, it's getting a 330 Olds mill. Why? Because I'm tired of seeing everyone put 350 chevies in their oldsmobiles and I want to be the antithesis of what they do. It'd only be better if it was a 69 camaro...

when that sound file was done, it was cold and the accelerator pump was sitting at the bottom of the float bowl. I rebuilt the carb and it still sounds like that. I don't know what's up with it. the breaker point is adjusted correctly, it's got a new condenser, gets plenty of spark, runs a bit rich, and new plugs and wires.

knowing my luck, I've got a dead cylinder, but for some reason it seems to smooth out the higher it goes. KNowing my luck, I'll do a compression check and have a 40 pounder lol.

Emmett, thanks a lot for the tip. That's something I will need to do before I get it out in May.

Congrats shortymac83

Nice 67 Truck...Now you can begin your journey of giving your truck a transformation that will be suited to your taste. You can't go wrong. Have fun...Live long...Enjoy forever!!

Remember...be patient. Most of our trucks are a life time/in progress fixer uppers. It seems we never get our trucks completly finished. There's always somthing else we want to touch up or fix up. You will find this board helpful in offering advice and helping in the location of parts.

Again...Congrats shortymac83

3:73 was standard with that drivetrain

Thanks CPNE. Yeah, it does sound kinda like a tractor. And I am being patient with it. My general idea is to drive it through college, then rip the body off the frame and see what damage I've gotta fix. I"m thinking though, that I will do a lot of the work along the way, like bolting on new inner and outer fenders, floor pans, etc. The absolute last thing I want to do is get new wood in the bed. I want that to look like you could eat off it.
