Question about hoods.

On my 67, the hood appears to have (at one point) been glued or epoxied to the bracing. How exactly were these attached together? Anyone have any good and easy tech tips for getting them BACK together?

I expect what you are describing is the padding that was inserted between hood sheetmetal and braces. I've observed that time coupled with excessive heat will melt this material and give it the appearence you describe. New padding can be purchased, or you can leave it "as is"

well, it does get over 100 for a few weeks in the summer here, and who knows if the thing has been overheated or what. What it honestly looks like is that someone ran a bead of black silicone on either sides of the hood braces. Is that what you're thinking of? Also, do you know where I could get those pads?

The hood and braces were designed so that there was a gap between them. This gap was then filled with pads to prevent the hood from wobbling when going over bumps. So, there should be a gap designed into your hood. As to what it's filled with after 35 years is anybody's guess but I've seen where the pads do get melted making it appear to be epoxy.

You can get replacement pads at any of the vendors listed on the lefthand side of this page .

Since you are a mid-westerner, GMCPauls in IN may be your best bet.
