I need a decent water pump.

I am looking for a water pump preferably with a cast iron impeller that will last for more than 3 or 4 years. The 75 C-10 has a stock 350 motor so don’t need high flow or any thing fancy.

My current water pump is an O’reillys CP1109 and after 3 years the bearings are going bad. Before that I had a similar water pump from AutoZone that lasted 4 years.

Many years ago I could buy a AC Delco water pump with a cast iron impeller and it would last about 10 years. I think they all have stamped steel impellers now.

I see that Advance Auto sells a heavy duty water but it does not say what parts are HD.

Thanks Ron.

Re: I need a decent water pump.

I got my water pump from an OEM Delco dealer. It was either www.oewarehouse.com or www.oehq.com. I don't know what kind of impeller it has but it was one heavy water pump. I think if you check the Rock Auto catalog it might have a Delco pump with a description in the "information" hot button. My pump has lasted about 10 years in the HotZona desert heat with no problems so I think it is a good pump.

Re: I need a decent water pump.

Do you have a NAPA nearby? Maybe see what they have to say. My experience is they are privately owned and usually have more knowledge than the other stores. Advance Auto usually has some knowledgeable people too but I might just be lucky with my local Advance store. I've never found a good Auto Zone store ever. If Auto Zone has it then Advance has it also.

Re: I need a decent water pump.

May just be bad luck. I got about 10 years out of an Autozone water pump I put on a crate motor for my 75. Currently 7 years into its replacement. First one failed due to leaky seal.

Make sure you look at all their offerings. Often, the counter person assumes you want the cheapest part available for your 40 year old vehicle. For a few dollars more, you can often get something claiming to be a name brand.

Or maybe 17 years ago, Autozone had better suppliers.

Re: I need a decent water pump.

That is the one I think I got.

www.oehq.com - $38.44 + shipping?

www.oewarehouse.com - $49.88 + free shipping

Wherever you decide to buy it from, always google the name of the seller followed by "promo code" or "coupon" to see if you can get an additional discount. You can usually get 10% off or so. Rock auto is always 5% off.
Both sellers above used to have free shipping over a certain dollar amount. Not sure about oewarehouse now.

Re: I need a decent water pump.

I bought this one off of eBay, It's the correct casting number for a 1975 small block but the build date is a little off but for $25 I can live with it I believe he has one left http://www.ebay.com/itm/152137365901...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
