Pov Cap removel tool ?

I have been told from "leddzepp" that he thinks Harbor Freight has a hub cap removal tool for the dog dish/pov caps, here is some pics of what I found there that might fit the bill.

If any body else here has a better idea please Show n Tell. By using this tool I would have to modify the hook end a little for it to work, If "leddzepp" is right on this tool of what he was thinking then I will modify it to work for me no problem there.

Thanks "leddzepp" if this is that tool

Re: Pov Cap removel tool ?

It works great but you can scratch painted wheels with the tip if your not careful with it. I could coat the tip or tape it but then it don't grab the edge of the cap the greatest.

It was a flea market find so Idk if it's the same one as hf.

Well I went ahead and pulled the trigger and ordered one for a total of $25.66 shipped to 92284. I 'll see what it looks like and give you all my Honest opinion on it. With it being $16.85 probably not real beefy, but hay it only needs to pop a little pov cap off right.

Re: Pov Cap removel tool ?

I simply took a piece of round stock aluminum I had laying around (about 3/16"), used a hammer and anvil to flatten the tip, used my vice to bend the flattened tip just over 90*, and finally filed the tip to give it a nice narrow edge. Slip it behind the cap and pull. I might even bend the other end to create a handle at some point. Cost: $0. Time: 2 minutes.

Re: Pov Cap removel tool ?

I use a cat's paw*. No time, no money, just grab from tool box. You put it under the lip of the hubcap sideways and rock it. You can see by how easily the cap moves whether you are on a nub or between. Between the nubs is how people distort the edge. Gotta pop it off the nub. Move around to a nub and BINGO! A rag can be place against the wheel or you could plasti-dip one just for hubcaps

* I call them lamb's paws because cats have 4 clawed feet and lambs have cleft hoof, like the tool. had an old guy call them that and it makes sense to me. Ever since, people have corrected me... with their inaccurate name

Re: Pov Cap removel tool ?

this is great info. i've been fighting with dog dish caps on two trucks with powdercoated steelies and that extra thick coating on the nubs makes the caps REALLY tight. i have the red plastic trim tools pictured above but they don't work. i wasn't sure where to get the hub cap tool. now i know! amazon, go figure...
