Air vent on driver side?

My '84 does not have an air vent on the driver side by my left foot. Matter of fact there is nothing there at all. There is an open hole which looks like its for a manual vent like on the passenger side but I'm not quite sure if the driver side should have a vent at all. Can anyone confirm? LMC does not list a vent for the divers side. What belongs there?

Re: Air vent on driver side?

I found an old photo of when i was in the process of changing from maroon to grey. The panel I believe you are referring to is down under the dash, right there by the parking brake pedal.

From LMC, it's part #1 of the Air Vent Components. As you can see, the right side is made for a vent, but the left side is not.

You are correct, its down by the E brake pedal. I guess I assumed that there might have been a vent for the LH side for trucks without AC as that panel is listed under models with AC...

Thanks!

Re: Air vent on driver side?

On earlier year trucks, there was an opening if it was a non-A/C vehicle. WE had an old 78 that had the hole. But for some reason, GM decided to do away with it in the later years.

I'm kinda bummed because my cab has a little rust spot. It's inside the cowl cavity near the seem by the E-brake pedal. The E-brake side looks deceivingly good and you can only see the spot if I use a scope. (which I did to make sure all was ok up there.) This whole thing would have been much easier to see and treat if GM left the hole there, dang it!

Since there is no way to get my hand in there from the top or the bottom, my plan is to pour a small can of POR15 down from the top and hope is covers the small rust spot.

Re: Air vent on driver side?

Non ac trucks have the air vents, ac trucks use the passenger side vent to draw air from and there is no vent hole on driver side

Re: Air vent on driver side?

So I took a look and found that I have a panel there but I can see it's not the correct one. There's some left over gasket around the hole where the vent should be.
