Re: What color would you paint your 1970 GMC 2500 4x4?

Maybe the original paint can be buffed out.

Personally, I think white/saddle is one of the best looking combos on our trucks. I'd keep it that way. Saddle interiors are GREAT looking also.

Here is a pretty neat site that member SS Tim posted once. It says that '70 GMC paint code 525 is yellow.

Re: What color would you paint your 1970 GMC 2500 4x4?

The best color for that truck is the color it came with from factory. The interior goes with it very nicely, a great combo for today. People look at the old dull faded paint and consider a brighter rich shiny color and forget the color they are looking at would look that way new. I repaint in original color unless it is a build from parts ground-up truck. Peple always have asked what color I'll paint a truck.I'll answer, "Same color", and get an, "Oh, hmmm... Ok". Not much excitement there. Then they see it done and it's, "THAT LOOKS FANTASTIC!!". I do plan on changing the white on my '72, though. Never figured on keeping that.

One big reason to keep same color is, as your body man said, that is not a '70 color. '69 was the last year but yours got it! In '70 GM went to Medium Gold Poly, like the 50th anniversary trucks. Yours was probably a special order. Let's see your SPID.

VIN number was confusing me. Different coding for GMC vs Chevy and different for various years. Any way I think I finally figured out that I do indeed have a 1970 GMC with a factory paint color that was discontinued before 1970.

To me the wheels look dated. That might sound odd considering I think white steel or slotted mags don't look dated. They are more of a classic traditional look. If you had three of your trucks and each was totally restored to stock and one had the wheels you have now, one had white steel with the small caps, and the last one had mags, showed all three together and asked people to vote their favorite my guess is the wheels you have on there now would get almost no votes. Now after saying that, who cares what I think lol, it's just how I see things =)

I appreciate the input. Obviously I just dropped a bucket of change on the purchase and will use those tires until worn. But will keep my eyes open for a set of replacement original wheels to put on in the future. Now I want to fix the rust and increase its value. BTW truck has been repainted once before so the paint is not factory original.
Thanks!

Re: What color would you paint your 1970 GMC 2500 4x4?

It seems that very few 67-69 trucks were painted 525 Saddle Brown. It was probably not a popular selling color and that is probably why they discontinued it.
