Front suspension rebuilding - POR15 pictures

Here is what I did this week. I had previously removed all the old rubber bushings and pressure washed the a-arm assemblies. Then I bead blasted the parts. Since rust will form immediately I used POR-15 all the parts. They only have a single coat. This is my first time using POR15 and I like it. Next time though instead of brushing it on I'm going to spray it on. If you really want a smooth look, it's better to hang the parts and coat them. Anything that drips over will not look good once it dries. Plus it may stick the part to anything the part is laying on!!

How much does that POR15 stuff cost anyways? I'm thinking I'm gonna shoot my underchassis stuff with it when I have my bed pulled off later on this year...

Looking good G. I have been wanting to do the por-15 thing for a long time. Keep us posted on your experiences w/ it. I didnt know you could get it in all those different colors. Clear?? Thats kinda cool.

I bought two quarts!! I used about 1/4 of a quart to do all the parts!!! That stuff covers a lot of area. Next time I'll be buying the pint size and spray it on. Unless you have an extremely large job to do. Like the bottom of the bed!!! Yes I plan to POR it now. I like the stuff. I used the high gloss black. Eventually it will dull a little due to the sun. No problem for me since the parts are for the suspension. I may go back and apply the sun protection but that adds to the costs.

If you get it in any threads you will have to run a tap through them.

Is there anything wrong with just using chassis paint instead of the POR 15?

I am going to have mine apart in the next few weeks as well.

Are you taking it apart just to take it apart, or did you get some new parts?

POR15 is more like powder coating than paint, I would say. The stuff dries as hard as a rock. The price ain't that bad guys.

Good stuff. I finished the floorboard of my truck in the gloss black, but too bad its under my carpet so that I cannot see it.

The POR is like a coating. If you lay a powder coated part next to a properly sprayed POR part , you could probably not tell the difference. Other than the POR is more shiny. I plan to use it in the engine bay, frame and under bed.
The suspension parts in the pictures are from a suburban. I am rebuilding them to save time when I put in the new engine. My truck also has a badly damage lower a-arm. The suburban parts are just replacements. I'll be adding 1.5 drop coils to the front too. Since the coils are powder coated these POR parts will make the whole suspension look nice. For the costs, it's CHEAP!!
